The perspective doesn't shift between an outsider and Senua, everything in this game is a reality of her own. Sometimes this world is created by Senua herself. There's little distraction from your main goal and the world reflects that. The audiovisual concept works great with the mythology and the gameplay. The path follows into her deepest fears and an inner darkness only a strong mind can endure. There is no tutorial for you to follow but the path Senua has chosen for herself.

One of a Celtic warrior against all odds, a raiding Viking tribe and their gods. You're a part of her and her most precious ally in this world where her quest is not one of a hero but a broken individual in a harsh brutal world. By integrating you into the world of Hellblade and Senua's mind you become one of the voices in her head. Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice is none of that.

Some try to reflect realism by adding a survival system, others have an open world where you can do whatever you want, most of the time leaving you with time consuming fetch quests. Comparable to any other medium video games have an advantage over most of them and that's immersion. When it comes to video games nowadays one thing that is most important to me is the story. There's not a ton of information about the new game, but if you wanted to learn how Juergens tackles acting and motion capture, it's a pretty interesting watch.Small spoilers for the first thirty minutes may appear. On April 16, Melina Juergens, the actress who plays Senua, released a video that describes her experience behind-the-scenes. Unfortunately, we didn't learn any specific details about the gameplay or level design. The first game took place in the fictional realm of Helheim, so it should be interesting to see how the game plays out with a physical location to work with instead. Neither half was incredibly complex, but the balance between the two worked well, and helped keep the story moving forward at a respectable clip.Īt the Microsoft July 2020 event, we learned that Hellblade 2 will take place in Iceland. The combat sections let Senua string together simple combos to take on both human and supernatural foes. The exploration sections challenged Senua to interact with environmental objects and solve puzzles.

In theory, it’ll resemble the first game, which was part exploration and part combat. Since the Hellblade 2 trailer was all prerendered cutscene footage, it’s hard to say what the gameplay might look like.
